Antique Frame Restoration
We can restore and conserve your frames from a light clean to rebuilding missing parts. Loose corners can be stabilised. Areas of flaking can be consolidated. Repair work can be re-gilded to match the existing surface. Our restoration and conservation work is always in keeping with the antique patina of the frame being sympathetic to the original surface. Repairs on more modern frames are also possible or we can advise on replacement.
Antique Swept Frame with all 4 corners missing.
This frame had all 4 corners missing and so after a light surface clean, a mould was taken from an existing frame with very similar detail. The losses were rebuilt and gilded to match the existing surface
19th Century Painting in an Antique Gilt Frame
This painting came in for a clean and varnish removal and the outcome was absolutely beautiful.
After a lot of care and attention to the painting, we must remember to take as much care in the beauty of the frame that the painting sits in. The surface was very dirty and had quite a few losses on the moulding. We have very gently cleaned the frame, then rebuilt and colour matched the losses while conserving the antique patina that it holds.
